A cover screen that finally pulls its weight
In previous generations, the FlexWindow was useful for notifications and little else. However, the new One UI 9 changes that meaningfully: the 4.1-inch cover display now supports a proper app tray, direct widget placement and layout customisation to mirror the main home screen, so staff can check calendars, respond to messages, approve requests or glance at dashboards without ever unfolding the device. For roles spent mostly on the move between meetings, that’s a genuine time saving repeated dozens of times a day.
Unfolded, the 6.9-inch main display runs at an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz, with peak brightness reaching 2,600 nits and full HDR10+ support. In practice, that means presentations, product demonstrations and video calls stay clearly visible even in bright client offices or outdoors, without staff needing to shield the screen or search for shade. The Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel is also built on Samsung’s improved Armour FlexHinge, which keeps the crease shallower and the display flatter to the touch than earlier Flip generations.
Highly Durable Design & Build Quality
The Armor Aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 cover display give the Z Flip 8 genuine day-to-day durability, backed by an IP48 rating against dust and water ingress. Worth flagging for procurement: IP48 protects against accidental spills and immersion in fresh water, but offers more limited protection against fine dust than higher-rated devices, a consideration for roles working in dusty warehouse, construction or outdoor site environments.
At just 6.1mm thick when unfolded and 180g in weight, this is a meaningfully slimmer and lighter device than the previous generation, and considerably easier to carry all day in a jacket pocket or small bag than any of Samsung’s larger foldables.
The refined Armor FlexHinge also closes more completely than earlier Flip generations, reducing the residual gap between the two halves when folded and giving the device a more finished, premium feel when handed across a table in a client meeting, a small detail that matters more than it should for staff representing your brand face to face.

Efficient, capable, and compact performance
UK devices ship with Samsung’s own Exynos 2600 chipset, built on a 2nm process and paired with the Xclipse 960 GPU. It’s tuned specifically for the workloads a Flip handles well: fast camera processing, smooth streaming and video calls, and efficient day-to-day multitasking rather than the heavier productivity loads the Fold range is built for.
Plus, with 12GB of RAM as standard, it comfortably handles business apps, email and video conferencing without hesitation.
A camera built for quick, confident capture
The 50MP main sensor, paired with a 12MP ultra-wide, gives staff a genuinely capable camera for client-facing photography, product and site documentation, or quick video updates recorded on the move. Optical image stabilisation on the main sensor keeps handheld shots and walk-and-talk video steady, which matters for teams recording site visits or product condition reports where a second attempt isn’t always possible.
The FlexWindow’s role as a viewfinder is one of the more practical business uses of the Flip’s folding design: staff can prop the device half-open at any angle and use the rear cameras, rather than a lower-resolution front lens, for group photos, video calls or hands-free recording during demonstrations. Combined with Samsung’s Photo Assist and Super Steady tools, it’s a setup well suited to teams who create client-facing content, marketing material or internal training video without needing separate camera equipment.

All-day power in a slimmer chassis
The 4,300mAh silicon-carbon battery is a genuine upgrade in underlying cell technology over previous generations, offering higher energy density in the same physical footprint. Samsung rates the device for up to 31 hours of video playback on a full charge, comfortably ahead of the Z Fold 8’s 26-hour rating, which is a meaningful figure for staff relying on the phone for navigation, streaming client presentations, or extended video calls across a working day.
The 25W wired and 15W wireless capacity is unchanged from the previous generation. That’s noticeably behind the 45W wired charging on the Fold 8 Ultra, so staff shouldn’t expect a rapid top-up between back-to-back meetings in the same way. Reverse wireless charging is also included, letting the device charge earbuds or a smartwatch directly when travelling without a spare cable to hand, a small but genuinely useful feature for frequent business travellers.

What else is new?
Running One UI 9 on Android 17, the Z Flip 8 brings Samsung’s latest Galaxy AI tools to the FlexWindow itself, including quick replies, live translation and smarter notification handling directly from the cover screen. For teams operating across UK and international markets, live translation on a device this portable is a genuinely practical addition to client meetings and calls, reducing reliance on separate interpretation tools or apps.
Samsung’s standard seven years of OS and security updates apply here too, giving IT teams the same long refresh cycle across the entire Z series regardless of which model each role is issued. That consistency matters for procurement planning: a mixed fleet of Flip 8, Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra devices can all be retired and replaced on the same schedule, simplifying budgeting and reducing the administrative overhead of tracking different support windows across device types.
