⏩ The 30 sec summary

Apple is rumoured to split the iPhone 18 launch: the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max and its first foldable in September 2026, with the standard iPhone 18 delayed to spring 2027. This autumn’s new-iPhone options look premium-only, and prices are tipped to rise. We’ll break down the cost, business benefits, hardware upgrades, and more.

Apple is also expected to confirm its event date imminently, with new leaks firming up the chip, camera and colour details below. We’ve also added a new section on Apple’s rumoured camera-equipped AirPods, which have caused a fair bit of confusion in the reporting.

Please note – no information, including the use of the name “iPhone 18”, has been confirmed by Apple.

If you need handsets this autumn and cost matters, I wouldn’t wait for the delayed standard iPhone 18. Look at the current iPhone 17 once the new Pros land, when previous-generation pricing usually improves, and reserve the Pro models for staff who genuinely need them.

What's covered

This post sets out what is currently rumoured about Apple’s iPhone 18 lineup and, more importantly, what it means if you are buying or upgrading business phones over the next year. Apple has confirmed nothing, so everything here is reporting and supply-chain leaks, flagged as such.

You will find the expected launch timing, the rumoured pricing, the hardware changes on the Pro models, what little is known about the first foldable iPhone, and a new section on Apple’s rumoured camera-equipped AirPods. Each section is written for a business reader deciding whether to buy now, wait, or hold with what they have.

If you want the short version: the affordable iPhone reportedly is not coming until spring 2027, so this autumn’s new models look premium-only. The rest is detail to help you plan around that.

What’s Launching in September 2026?

Apple looks set to split the iPhone 18 launch in two. The iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple’s first foldable are rumoured for September 2026, while the standard iPhone 18 has reportedly slipped to spring 2027. For businesses, that means no cheaper new iPhone this autumn, only the premium models. None of this is confirmed. Apple has announced nothing.

This is a real change to how Apple releases phones. In a normal year the full range arrives in September. This year the premium models come first and the affordable ones follow months later. If you want a brand-new iPhone for your team this autumn, the rumoured lineup only gives you the expensive options.

When Is the iPhone 18 Announcement?

This is now close to confirmed. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple plans to send out event invitations this week, pointing to a keynote on Wednesday, 9th September 2026. One Australian outlet claimed Tuesday, 8th September, but that date looks unlikely since Apple has never held its iPhone event the day after Labor Day, and there has historically always been at least a two day gap.

If Apple follows its usual pattern, pre-orders would open the Friday after the keynote, around 11th September, with phones on shelves about a week later, around 18th September. The one wrinkle remains the foldable. Reports suggest the iPhone Ultra could be unveiled in September but held back for a later pre-order date, with one well-tracked leaker specifically flagging that supply will be very limited when it first ships.

Nothing here is fixed until Apple posts the invitation on its events page in late August.

Why Is There No Standard iPhone 18 This Autumn?

Because the affordable models have reportedly been pushed to spring 2027. Multiple outlets report the standard iPhone 18, the iPhone 18e and a second generation iPhone Air will arrive in spring, possibly around March, with the split letting Apple concentrate attention on its highest margin devices during the holiday period.

This one is not fully settled. A couple of outlets still say the standard iPhone 18 could ship in September with minor spec cuts rather than being delayed, so treat the spring 2027 date as the leading rumour, not a certainty. For planning purposes, the safe assumption is that the cheapest new iPhone will not be available until well into next year.

How Much Will the iPhone 18 Pro Cost?

Rumours point to a price rise across the Pro line. Reporting suggests the iPhone 18 Pro could start around £960 ($1,300) and the Pro Max around £1,040 ($1,400), reflecting a rumoured increase of roughly £75-150 ($100-200) over the current Pro models. Some more recent analyst notes put the rise higher still, closer to £190-230 ($250-300) per model, which would put a Pro Max nearer £1,120-1,160 ($1,449-1,499). Gurman attributes the rise to higher chip, memory and camera costs.

The foldable is the wild card. Estimates cluster around £1,480 ($2,000) or more, with some stretching past £1,850 ($2,500). There is still no consensus on the exact figure.

The pound figures above are a direct conversion of the dollar rumours at today’s exchange rate, not a UK price. Apple sets its UK recommended prices independently, adds VAT and rounds to its own price points, so the actual UK RRP will differ and is not yet known. And a launch price is not the price a business pays over a contract, which is where the real numbers get decided.

What’s Changing Inside the iPhone 18 Pro?

The headline hardware change is the chip. The Pro models are expected to run a new A20 Pro processor built on a 2 nanometre process, up from the 3 nanometre A19 Pro. The latest leaks have firmed this figure up: one well-tracked source now says up to 18% more performance and around 30% better efficiency, which for a phone used all day mostly shows up as battery life.

The Pro models are also rumoured to drop the Dynamic Island in favour of under-display Face ID, keeping only a small punch-hole camera cutout off to one side. Newer leaks specifically place the selfie camera in the top-left corner rather than centred, and describe the change as producing a smaller Dynamic Island rather than removing it outright. That is still the leading rumour rather than a settled fact, and some accounts differ on exactly how far the change goes. The standard iPhone 18, when it arrives, is expected to keep the Dynamic Island as is.

Screen sizes are rumoured at around 6.3 inches for the Pro and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max, close to the current generation, though newer reports suggest the panels will move to LTPO+ technology aimed specifically at improving battery life. The Pro Max is separately rumoured to carry a larger 5100mAh battery, with the standard Pro’s battery size still unconfirmed. The Pro line is also tipped to gain a variable aperture main camera, with a slightly refined camera bump, and the physical Camera Control button is rumoured to switch from a capacitive surface to a pressure-based mechanism for more reliable tactile feedback. There’s also talk of 5G via satellite being added on the Pro models.

What Do We Know About the Foldable iPhone?

The foldable is expected to open to around 7.8 inches and measure about 5.5 inches when closed, using a Samsung OLED panel with reduced crease. It would be a book-style fold, a smaller outer screen opening to a larger inner one, in the same family as Samsung’s and Google’s foldables.

The production signal is the interesting part. Apple has reportedly told suppliers to prepare around 10 million units this year, which is not a small trial run. That is the kind of volume that suggests Apple intends this as a real product rather than a limited experiment. At the same time, the most recent leaks specifically flag that early supply of the iPhone Ultra will be very limited, so a real product ambition and a tight launch quantity aren’t necessarily a contradiction. Apple has confirmed no foldable, and everything about it remains speculation.

For businesses already curious about foldables, they are not new to the category. Business-ready foldables such as the Galaxy Z Fold8 are already available on contract, which makes a useful reference point for what a folding device costs and how it holds up in daily work before Apple’s version arrives.

Are Apple’s New AirPods Getting a Camera?

This is a new and genuinely confusing thread, so worth setting out plainly. Apple has two separate camera-earbud projects in the works, and most of the contradictory headlines come from mixing them up. The first, codenamed B798, is Apple’s longer-running AI focused project: earbuds that feed what you’re looking at to Siri and Apple Intelligence, similar in purpose to the cameras planned for Apple’s rumoured smart glasses. This one has slipped repeatedly and current reporting puts it at 2027, not this year. The second, codenamed B790, is a nearer term AirPods Pro refresh that unexpectedly turned up with camera related code in an iOS 27 beta, and is the model behind most of the “cameras this September” speculation.

A few specifics have leaked on the B790 model:

For a business reader, the practical read is: camera equipped AirPods are real and further along than most rumours suggest, but the more credible recent reporting keeps them out of this year’s launch. Worth watching rather than planning around.

Should My Business Wait or Buy Now?

It depends on your timing and your budget. If you need to refresh handsets this autumn and you want the newest iPhone, the rumoured lineup only offers the Pro, Pro Max or the foldable, all at the top of the price range. If cost matters more than having the latest model, waiting for the standard iPhone 18 in spring 2027 is one option, and buying the current iPhone 17 once the new Pros land is another, since previous-generation models usually get more competitive after a launch.

In our experience, most business buyers do not need the absolute newest handset across a whole fleet. Matching the device to the role, a Pro for staff who genuinely use the camera or need the performance, a standard model or last year’s phone for everyone else, is where the saving is. If you would rather not time the market at all, an Upgrade on Demand arrangement lets you refresh devices when it suits the business rather than when Apple sets the calendar. When is the iPhone 18 coming out?

The iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max and Apple’s first foldable are rumoured for September 2026, with a keynote expected around 9 September, pre-orders about 11 September and sale from around 18 September. The standard iPhone 18 has reportedly been delayed to spring 2027. Apple has not confirmed any dates.

Is there a standard iPhone 18 this year?

Probably not this autumn. Multiple reports say the standard iPhone 18 and the cheaper iPhone 18e will not arrive until spring 2027, leaving only the Pro, Pro Max and foldable in September. A minority of outlets still think the standard model could ship in September with minor cuts, so this is not fully settled.

How much will the iPhone 18 Pro cost?

Rumours point to the iPhone 18 Pro starting around £960 ($1,300) and the Pro Max around £1,040 ($1,400), a reported rise of about £75-150 ($100-200) blamed on chip, memory and camera costs. The foldable is estimated at £1,480 ($2,000) or more. These pound figures are a direct conversion of the dollar rumours, not UK prices, which Apple sets separately and will include VAT.

Will there be a foldable iPhone in 2026?

Reporting strongly suggests yes, launching alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models. It is rumoured to open to around 7.8 inches and close to about 5.5 inches, using a Samsung panel. Apple has reportedly asked suppliers to prepare around 10 million units, which points to a real product rather than a trial. Apple has confirmed nothing, though there is a lot of speculation. Read our post on the rumoured iPhone Fold now.

Should I buy an iPhone 17 now or wait for the iPhone 18?

If you need phones this autumn and want to control cost, the iPhone 17 is worth a serious look, since previous-generation pricing usually improves once new models launch. If you specifically need the newest performance or camera, the iPhone 18 Pro is the only new option until spring 2027. For a fleet, matching the device to the role usually saves more than buying the newest model across the board.

📌 The bottom line

Final Thoughts

The one change that matters for planning is the split launch: if the reporting holds, the affordable new iPhone will not exist until spring 2027, so this autumn’s choice is premium-only or last year’s models. Prices look set to rise, and the foldable adds a new and pricier option at the top. Until Apple confirms anything, treat all of it as rumour and avoid committing a whole fleet on the strength of a leak. When the real numbers land, the sensible next step is to price the handset you actually want on a business contract rather than judge it on a launch figure.
