Introducing: The World’s Skinniest Smartphone

Android’s co-creator certainly has something new up his sleeve…

If you liked the Essential Phone, then we’re curious to find out what you think about this one…

Andy Rubin, co-creator of Android, is rather famed for his innovative and unique creations. Following his Essential Phone last year, rumours swirled that any plans for a 2nd-Gen version of the device had been cancelled – which he’s just shown us is definitely not the case.

Sharing two pictures and a video on Twitter, Andy revealed his latest creation: Project Gem.

Take a look!

Very…. unique.

As you can see in the images, the extremely narrow phones appear to have a single rear camera lens, and a fingerprint scanner. Not to mention the vibrant, shiny colours selected!

While it was initially unclear on whether or not the phone was part of Essential, this was confirmed several hours after Rubin’s initial tweets when an official account shared more shots of the phone.

What do we know about the new phone?

Pretty much nothing… apart from the fact that we’ve never seen anything like it.

Speaking to ‘The Verge’, a spokesperson for Essential clarified that the company has: “Been working on a new device that’s now in early testing with our team outside the lab. We look forward to sharing more in the near future.”

So, keep your eyes peeled (not that it’s hard to miss) – we could be seeing this creative new device on our shelves pretty soon!
