Is WhatsApp about to stop working on your Smartphone?
It’s one of the biggest messaging Apps in the world – but it may not work on your smartphone for much longer…
WhatsApp has revealed to users that the app will stop working on any Windows smartphone later this month.
The company explained; “You’ll no longer be able to use all Windows Phone operating systems after December 31, 2019, and WhatsApp might not be available in the Microsoft Store after July 1, 2019.”
Launched in October 2010, the Windows Phone operating system has since supported the software. However, Microsoft announced in January this year that come December – this will no longer work, advising users to shop Android or iOS instead.
As if it couldn’t get any worse, Whatsapp also revealed that the app will stop working on several iPhone and Android smartphones in the next few months.
As of February 1st, users of Android version 2.3.7 and older won’t be able to create new accounts or reverify already existing accounts. For Apple users, those running on iOS 8 and older will deal with the same scenario.
WhatsApp has previously withdrawn their support for the Nokia Series 40 operating system, the BlackBerry OS and 10, Android 2.1 and 2.2, the iPhone 3GS and iOs 6 – amongst others.
What do WhatsApp have to say?
Shared in a blog post a few months ago, the company stated that: “This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp.”
