After a highly anticipated period of waiting, the Huawei P30 has launched.
The slightly cheaper ‘sibling’ to the P30 Pro, the P30 is packed full of impressive features as would be expected from the ambitious brand.
Available in 5 colours, you won’t be short for choice. Pick from a beautiful shimmering ‘Pearl White’, ‘Breathing Crystal’, ‘Aurora’, ‘Amber Sunrise’ or a Shiny Black – visually, the P30 is a stunning handset and while the device lacks the curved edges of the Pro, it doesn’t negatively impact the appearance of the phone at all.
How does it differ from last years P20? Quite subtly. The housing of the camera on the back is slightly longer and sticks out more (due to the extra camera), the edges are a little more squared, and the display is a tad smaller.
Unlike most new smartphones, the P30 (unlike the Pro) still has the headphone jack. It’s even integrated an in-screen fingerprint scanner – said to be the fastest to unlock, ever!
With a 6.1” OLED Full HD+ screen and a resolution that matches the Pro, the P30 is a great size. While it’s slightly smaller than that of the Pro, the quality is up to scratch. With a perfect contrast and incredible brightness, its AMOLED display ensures that colours are seen at the highest standard.
The phone also comes with HDR10 support, meaning that any video content looks amazing and vibrant.
When it comes to battery and performance, the P30 matches the pricier P30 Pro using the same 2.6GHz octa-core Kirin 980. The P30 also houses 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage – meaning you’ll have plenty of space to use at your will.
With a fantastic processor, the phone functions very well. Responsive, fast, and generally showing a great performance in all aspects, it can’t really be faulted.
You won’t be worried about your phone dying either. With a strong 3,650mAh battery, the P30 should last you around a day and half of moderate use without having to charge. Even longer, if you’re careful!
Camera wise? The three on the rear are great. The main camera features a 40-megapixel sensor, with super spectrum technology that will ensure your photos come out perfectly, even in low lighting.
The ultra-wide camera is 16-megapixels, and with great zoom – you won’t need to search any further. The phone’s selfie camera is 32-megapixel, capturing incredible detail. A great effort on photography, as expected.
Overall? The Huawei P30 is a fantastic, visually beautiful smartphone with a great processor and a powerful set of cameras – not to mention the long-lasting battery life. It’s a smartphone that you don’t want to be missing out on.
