Samsung Leo (Apollo) i5801e |
For those who want the Samsung Galaxy but find its too higher cost for them to justify this is the handset for you.
|

The Galaxy Apollo offers many of the same features as the Galaxy S series, including running Android version 2.1, just in a much cheaper handset.
Large but Lovely
The Apollo may not look as classy as some of the newer handsets released by Samsung, but it has definitely got its own merits. It is a little chunky but this just makes the phone feel solid and secure. The front of the device looks fantastic with its mirrored finish and brightly coloured display.
Just underneath the screen there is a home button and two touch-sensitive buttons to get you to the menu or let you go back, if you want to get out a message etc. The top of the device hosts a standard headphone socket 3.5 mm, a power button which doubles as a lock switch and a micro-USB port
Finger-Friendly
Thankfully, Samsung has not used a rubbish resistive touchscreen on the Apollo. Instead, the phone has a classy capacitive touchscreen that supports multi-touch, so you can pinch your fingers together or spread them to zoom in our out of Web pages, maps and pictures. The sensitive screen also makes it really easy to enter text using the on-screen keyboard.
The phone runs on a processor that goes up to 667MHz. The handset generally feels nippy even with all of your widgets open on your main screen.
It doesn’t matter that the Apollo has a relatively small screen and comparatively slow processor as it performs just as well as most other smart phones and has great battery life. Getting 2 days of use out of this handset is not in the realms of implausibility, which is handy for those days when you don’t get chance to plug your phone into a wall or a computer.
Adulterated Android
The Apollo uses version 2.1 of the Android operating system, which is a fairly recent release. As such, it benefits from an improved user interface and a much needed updated Web browser, as well as that all-important multi-touch support.
Smart phones just don’t seems as smart without multi-touch support allowing you to magnify those hard to find words with a simple pinch or scroll a web page by smoothing one finger down the screen.
Summary
The Samsung Galaxy Apollo i5801e is one fantastic handset when the price is considered. The touch screen is amazing and able to compete with the best in the market with its capacitive abilities and sleek appearance. The battery life is adequate and the processor keeps everything running smoothly even when you have all your widgets open.
The widgets are so good you will not miss the offer of an app store and will be kept busy by all of this handsets amazing features. It is an ideal choice for anyone who wants all the perks of a high end mobile phone with a fraction of the price.
