Samsung U900 Soul |
This is a 3G Video phone that is definitely good for the Soul! (pun intended)
|

This is Samsungs golden child for 2008! And we must say it definitely looks very “now”! What with it’s dual-screen touch-sensitive controls and metal casing…., plus a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, 3G video calling, MP3 player, FM radio and heaps of memory – the Samsung U900 it should definitely tick most people's “must have” desire box!
It comes in any colour you want, so long as it’s…. Graphite, Silver or Pink.
This next-generation slide phone’s body is made from metal, giving it a really lush, high quality feel, just like one of Nokia's premium handsets. It has a sleek, minimalist design and we were impressed with the way that the thumb rests securely on the base of the slide. This is a phone that feels good in the hand.
The slide moves smoothly & fluidly up to reveal a flat keypad. Now the keypad it may not be to everyone's taste, but if you liked the Motorola RAZR, you'll like this.
The Samsung Soul has a great navigation system that allows you click forward and back using arrows on either side of the Navigation menu via the touch screen interface.
Depending on where in the Navigation system you are these will change eg: Left and Right – to go through photos in the photo book and then somewhere else Navigation may be Left, Right and Up and down. View and demo of the U900 Soul here
Look and feel & Features
Although a tad heavy in the hand, the Soul's sturdy build suggests a quality of craftsmanship. It definitely looks striking and if you're not happy with the choice of wallpaper, menu interface or font, choose another from the huge range on offer.

A 5 Megapixel camera with the useful face recognition feature, HSDPA internet speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and a music player endorsed by Bang & Olufsen. The ‘Magic Touch' navigation pad changes according to what feature you're using. The ‘Magic Touch' navigation pad both looks and feels the part with a “haptic” response acknowledging a key press. It can take some getting used to moving from the touch-sensitive navi pad to the hard keys that need a firmer press.
While all the phone's key features - camera, music player and ultra-fast internet speeds - perform to an excellent standard, the Soul's call quality fails to reach the same standards, and the video-recording capabilities also appear to have been neglected. Considering slider phones tend to have a shorter battery life than their candy bar and clamshell peers, the 360 minutes talk time and 280 hours standby is more than adequate.
