First Impressions

In truth, the iPhone 8 is similar in appearance to the current iPhone 7. It has a 4.7-inch screen, while the larger iPhone 8 plus has a 5.5-inch screen but both look fairly similar to their earlier counterparts.  But the processor is the A11 Bionic – which Apple claims is “the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone,” so this bodes well. New features on the iPhone 8 that weren’t on the iPhone 7 are…

So what are the new features? New features on the iPhone 8, that weren’t on the iPhone 7 are…

Wireless charging

Just like the far more expensive iPhone X, the new iPhone 8 will come with wireless charging capabilities. What this means is that the phone can be charged by simply placing it on a power pad. This wireless charging while available on Samsung for a while is the first time this technology has come to the iPhone. And we must say were very glad to see it.

If you’re anything like us you probably run around trying to find cables and plugs to charge your phone. The ease of displacing your phone on a pad and it always been charged awesome . “Words can’t describe how much nicer it is to never plug in a cable again.”

Design

One new design feature is that there will be glass on the front and the back of the device.  This will be both water and dust resistant.
“The new iPhone will have the most durable glass ever in a smartphone,” says Apple.

Home Button

Much has been made about the demise of the home button on the new iPhone X, but for those that love it… you’ll be pleased to know it’s remained on the iPhone 8.

Camera

Both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus have a HD retina display and feature a 12MP camera.

Video

The new video capabilities on the iPhone 8 look impressive – Apple claims that their new camera delivers “the highest quality video capture ever in a smartphone”. This means better video stabilisation and 4K video up to 60fps….…Niiiiiiice!

How much will the phones cost?

The iPhone 8 will cost £699 for the 64GB version, while the iPhone 8 Plus will start from £799 (64GB)

256GB versions will also be available.

Verdict

So, is the iPhone 8 really worth it? We think the iPhone 7 is a sleek, gorgeous and generally fantastic phone…. But if you want Wireless charging with enhanced cameras, an improved design (with more sexy glass), we think it’s definitely an upgrade to previous models…
And the best product that has come out of Apple.
