Nokia N8800 Sirocco |
A Business Mobile that will impress others – the Nokia N8800 is sleek, curveous and definitely a breath of fresh air!
|

A Sirocco is a wind that comes up from the Sahara and reaches hurricane force by the time it reaches North Africa and Southern Europe.
So to, the new Nokia N8800 “Sirocco” is definitely a breath of fresh air.
The original Nokia 8800 was a popular phone with a stainless steel casing that looked expensive, but it was lacking in features and had rather bad battery life.
The new 8800 “Sirocco” Edition shares the same look, but comes in a choice of black or steel. It has an exquisite design and sensuous curves that make holding it a real pleasure.
It has a signature thumb rest in the middle of the black casing (…but be warned we noticed that the Glossy black casing – while sexy looking – is a real magnet for thumbprints).
The Sirrocco’s slid mechanism provides a fluid motion which is supported by ball bearings and the whole motion is fluid and slick. The movement makes opening your phone almost too delicious for words.
This is a phone has an amazing large TFT screen display with 262k colours and 208 x 208 pixels plus it comes with a scratch resistant screen. The screen can be viewed either when the handset is opened or in closed position.
The camera has been substantially uprated from the Nokia 8800’s 0.5 megapixels to 2 megapixels. Then there's a music player and an FM radio. There are even custom ring tones created by David Bowie collaborator Brian Eno!
The Sirocco does support Speaker Independent Number Dialling as well as the very useful speed dialling, and it also has an integrated hands free speaker system.
The custom user interface was specially designed for the phone.
Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity is supported, fast data transfer via EDGE, and the memory has been usefully upgraded to 128 Mbytes. The Nokia 8800 Sirocco comes with Bluetooth® technology which allows the user to connect to any Bluetooth® compatible device. So now you can enjoy wire free connection between the two compatible devices.
The phone comes with EDGE technology which provides the user with efficiently fast & effective data transfer which works approximately three times faster than GPRS. The phone comes with tri band technology which works over three network bands & will automatically switch between the networks without the user knowing.
Disappointingly the battery life of the Sirocco is not much better than the old 8800. It lasts a day or two at most under normal use. Still, the Sirocco is about style first and practicality second, and as long as you can live with its shortcomings the 8800 Sirocco is a stunningly beautiful phone.
In summary:
The Nokia 8800 Sirocco is let down a little by short battery life compared to others, but all round it’s a sexy, sleek body surrounding a very good and useful
Business Mobile.
