You can also browse presentations and read speaker notes on the 6600 handset. Other business benefits are that the XHTML browser supports secure email access via 128 bit SSL encryption and a mobile VPN, using permanent TCP/IP currently on O2 and Vodafone networks.

If you're looking for a phone that can do everything, stay away -- but if you want something that does the basics well, this could be it. Calling and texting are straight forward and Nokia's S40 interface is easy to understand, especially if you've used a Nokia phone before.

Built-in 3G means you can browse the Web at high speeds. The 6600 Slide comes with Opera Mini pre-installed, which lets you look at full Web pages in a similar way to the iPhone's browser. You can also use 3G to make video calls, but who are we kidding -- has anyone made a video call since the service came out?

There is also a 3.2 megapixel camera, a 2.2? QVGA display and integrated Nokia Maps application. Strangely, the device does not sport in-built GPS but does support the optional Nokia Bluetooth GPS Module LD-4W and separate navigation license. The 3.2-megapixel camera on the back will satisfy your basic MMS and Facebook photography needs, and we were surprised to see how well it performed in low light.

Play your video clips on your desktop, install the 6600 PC suite and connect via Bluetooth. The suite has contacts and calendar backup, syncing and file transfer. Also bundled is the Nokia Multimedia Player that plays .3gp video files from the 6600 on the desktop

Nokia Maps
A useful and unexpected feature is Nokia Maps, which comes pre-installed and allows you search for directions. The 6600 doesn't come with GPS so you can't pinpoint your location without using an external Bluetooth GPS receiver, but we still found Nokia Maps to be useful without it.

A Nokia wallet application stores encrypted personal information. You can record calls or use it like a dictaphone.

Summary: The 6600 Slide is a simple phone with simple ambitions. It has many good points including faultless Bluetooth, video clips with sound, support for Opera, and SSL encryption. While other smart phone-users may scoff at its simplicity, we really liked it -- especially its style. A solid case combined with an easy-to-understand interface make this an understated gem that will deliver an enjoyable user experience. If you require a excellent tri-band Bluetooth phone - with a bright screen, and versatile camera, removable memory, and calendar and contact syncing with your desktop then the 6600 is worth considering.
