The all new BlackBerry Pearl 8220 Flip phone with a 2 megapixel camera, full mobile internet and stunning multi screen display.
BlackBerry have broken the traditional Black Pearl & Curve mold with this breakthrough device. Th new BlackBerry 8220 takes all of the good features of the BlackBerry Pearl line and stuffs them into the Flip phone form that is so popular with certain Business people.
Plus the BlackBerry Flip offers something no other BlackBerry has been able to in the past: it has a secondary display.
So it all looks fantastic, but how does the Flip actually look and work?
Well for starters - The Flip looks drop dead gorgeous. The 8220's smooth curves, metal trim, and gloss front face and embedded display are just sexy with a
capital “S”
On the left edge are two particularly handy features: a 3.5mm audio port and a micro-USB charger/data port.
There are a pair of user configurable shortcut keys, one on each side, and a microSD memory card slot that sits below the volume rocker control on the right edge.
The Pearl Flip's 240x320 pixel (QVGA) display is quite impressive and inside you’ll find the Pearls signature trackball. Because of the Flip this time it sits in a recessed well that keeps the trackball from pressing on the display when the lid is closed. However we didn't find this to be a problem and in testing we were able to use the trackball as per normal.
The Pearl Flip 8220 lacks any 3G support at all, but works on all 4 of the major GSM/EDGE network bands used throughout the world
The Business Man (or woman) who gets the new Pearl Flip will enjoy a couple of options when it comes to accessing phone numbers. The first is that contacts can be assigned as speed dials to any of the keys on the QWERTY keyboard. Simply access a person by long pressing the associated key. The second is a Voice dialling application from Nuance and the voice dialling accuracy was spot on.
The Pearl Flip 8220 supports push email from POP, IMAP, Exchange (via HTTP), Outlook, and Notes/Domino Servers. The 8220 also comes with real IM clients for AIM, MSN, and Yahoo!, Gtalk, ICQ, and BlackBerry IM services as pre-loaded.
In summary: A BlackBerry Clamshell form factor! While the Flip is not our favourite BlackBerry, its still good compact phone/PDA for mobile email and it comes with a 2 Mega Pixel Camera and MP3 player thrown in!
