5 Finance Tips
1. Stay on top of them
One of the biggest issues small business owners do is let their finances build up.
Not everyone is an accountant and the easiest thing to do is to put it off until you HAVE to do it. However, the longer you wait the bigger they get and then you’ll find yourself putting it off even longer.
On the other hand, to help you solve your financial issues, breaking your invoices and bills down into categories can be a great method to staying on top of your finances.
2. Prepare yourself for slow periods.
Most business will have peak seasons and some slower months of the year, as long as you are prepared this and understand your sales cycle, this shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
If you save yourself 3/4 months of overflow cash, you should be able to balance yourself out over the year and continue to fund your business.
3. Focus on your strengths
As a new business owner, we know you want to make a big an impact on the market as possible!
But sometimes new business owners can try do and be everything. For example, focusing on your strengths first and becoming a successful business should be the first thing you do, not developing an app for a business that has only just been created.
Also utilising your employees smartly is a must, you may have a web developer in your accounting team, however taking them away from their main role could cause problems.
4. Don’t over work yourself
We are all down for working hard and making things work for the benefit of the company, but over working and doing 80 hours a week could cause serious problems.
Blowing all your energy and time into work can cause issues outside of work stuffing your head meaning you don’t think clearly.
It’s okay to work a lot in short periods of time, but you will not see the benefits no matter how much you try if you are over doing yourself. You need to be profitable, not just the company.
5. Don’t be scared to ask!
Finally, as a new business owner, sometimes you need a break or a little something to give you a boost.
Don’t be scared to ask for discounts or money off when money can be a bit tight, it won’t work every time but you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much free stuff you can get if you just ask.
